We work in a business suite with a dentist, insurance company, and a lawyer. I need to think of an out source business to persue to movie in that could benifit my business as well as the business coming in. What kind of ideas can you come up with to occupy one of the other suites. Some have said a cafeteria and others said a travel agent

My boyfriend travels to various job sites thruout the day for his work. His new employer told him that he can claim $.58 a mile for his travel to and from his various job locations on his taxes. Can he do that if it is not his own business? If yes, then what about gas and insurance? What about tools and materials he is required to buy that are not supplied?
Which costs are considered start-up costs in this example and what is the total start-up cost for this business?

Al and Joe are bungee-jumping one day.
Al says to Joe, "You know, we could make a lot of money running our own bungee-jumping service in Mexico."
Joe thinks this is a great idea, so they pool their money together and buy everything they’ll need; a tower, an elastic cord, insurance, etc.
Then they travel to Mexico and begin to set up on the square.
As they are constructing the tower, a crowd begins to assemble around them.
Slowly, more and more people gather to watch them at work.
When they had finished, there was such a crowd they thought it would be a good idea to give a demonstration.
So Al jumps. He bounces at the end of the cord, but when he comes back up Joe notices that he has a few cuts and scratches.
Unfortunately, Joe isn’t able to catch him, and he falls again, bounces and comes back up again.
This time, he is bruised and bleeding.
Again Joe misses him. Al falls again and bounces back up.
This time he comes back pretty messed up, he’s got a couple of broken bones and is almost unconscious.
Luckily, Joe finally catches him this time and says, "What happened? Was the cord too long?"
Barely able to speak, Al gasps, "No, the bungee cord was fine. It was the crowd. But what the F*&k is a piñata?!!"
I hope no one was offended – just jokes people
for each item, is it added to or subtracted from (by how much – eg 100%, 50% etc), or excluded from the employee’s gross salary when calculating the employee’s taxable income?
the following were credited to the employee’s payroll account:
1. reimbursement of business travel costs paid by employee as per invoices supplied by the employee
2. a reimbursement in tuition fees paid by employee for a work related course
3. a dividend on company shares acquired through the employee purchase program
4. fee for serving as the employee’s representative on the company’s board of directors
the following were withheld by the company:
5. income taxes
6. premiums on group medical insurance
7. contributions to registered pension plans
the following were payments made by the employee:
8. dental expense (not covered by employee’s medical insurance)
9. charitable contribution
10. cost of moving to new apartment
11. life insurance premium
12. cost of travel to/from place of employment
thanks in advance!
During the heavy rain storms of 2007 in Central Texas my travel trailer suffered water damage. Progressive denied my claim by claiming the trailer had a "manufacturers defect" (refrigerator vent). However, I was the ONLY KNOWN CASE of this defect. I refiled the claim a year later (after my return from deployment) and had the Progressive Agent call Weekend Warrior Trailers, before they went out of business, and they confirmed that the "manufacturers defect" was unheard of.
Progressive re-investigated my claim and AGAIN claimed "manufacturers defect," but a DIFFERENT defect (undefined). I objected and demanded they show me ANY OTHER Progressive claims on Weekend Warrior Trailers with this "manufacturers defect." They were unable to do so.
Progressive then changed the denial to "leaky seals" (read: improper user maintenance). However, they based this claim on pictures and testing over 600 days AFTER the initial claim.
Can I sue Progressive Insurance in small claims court for the several thousand dollars it will cost me to repair my travel trailer. What other recourse do I have to "fight" this injustice. I dropped Progressive shortly after I began the claims process so I know they don’t want to payout several thousand dollars after I only paid about 0 for a years’ insurance. But isn’t this a gamble the insurance company’s take?
Hi
I heard a lot recently about the American right-wing making up lies about the NHS (I’m British by the way) – I was just wondering to what extent and roughly how much of the population believe them.
So just to clear up some of the lies that I have come across:
–Stephen Hawking is British. And he does get treated.
–Over 65s recieve the exact same treatment as all others – there is no ‘age limit’ or any other such thing. The idea that over 65s get less healthcare is complete rubbish.
–Yes, eating disorders *are* covered by the NHS. This is a reference to something I saw an American right-wing supporter saying on this very site.
–The idea that £14,000 (,750) is how much the NHS is willing to spend on you is utter rubbish.
–The idea that over-59s cannot recieve heart transplants or bypasses is completely untrue and has no basis in fact.
–The World Health Organisation actually ranks British healthcare, in terms of quality alone, as #18 globally. The US is ranked #37. I think it’s rich that the US has the nerve to attack our system. Also, France was #1 if anyone is interested. And yes, they do actually have a great system in France before any jokes crop up.
–Did the Americans hear about the guy who was on a business trip to the US with full travel insurance? He fell ill but his insurance allowed him to have full healthcare in the US. He was so appalled with the quality that when the disease resurfaced he caught a British Airways flight and came back to blighty for treatment. True story.
–Here is the anecdote of an American living in Britain, if anyone would like to read it.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2009/08/another_story_from_the_uk.php#more?ref=fpblg
I don’t mean to start an argument, but the quality of the NHS and the fact that it is free is something we are very proud of in the UK, and I think that if the media will lie to a country to achieve their ends would they at least do it without lying about another country? Also, I would be interested to know roughly what proportion of the American population actually believe these lies.
Thanks
scredawg – you are clearly either an American or in a British minority. Everyone I have asked says they love the NHS, stop making stupid assumptions. And I am not the only one who thinks so… did you not read my post?
Erm, British people have absolutely fine teeth, myself included thank you (not one filling or anything, and that is hardly unusual).
I know sticking to stereotypes is easy, but it is also pathetic and shows that you cannot win the argument.
*** the economies doing fine, thank you. I know you guys nearly messed it up worldwide but thanks to Labour (even though I support LibDem) the majority of the public really feel no difference.
In reference to the cost, as the nhs is paid for by taxes:
In the UK we actually pay less per head for healthcare.
I would also like to use this opportunity to point out that we have a higher life expectancy.
I’m a ’silly boy’. Right. Nice debating there, you’re a mature one.
Sammycal – I just read the first website, and thought it laughable. Not only is it an american website, but it uses one of the lies I corrected about. NICE does not make a ‘£14000′ (000) ‘cut off point’. Well, I’ll quote somewhere else if it’s all the same to you. If you *still* misunderstand, you are beyond help:
This is a gross misrepresentation of how Nice applies health economics to try and address the central issue: how to allocate healthcare rationally within the context of limited healthcare resources. Nice assesses the cost of a treatment in terms of a cost-utility analysis which takes account of the quality adjusted life year – the amount and quality of extended life it is hoped the patient will gain. The current ceiling is £30,000 but exceptions are made’
‘Juice’ – thank you, I couldn’t agree more. I wholeheartedly believe that the actions of your nation (such as whether or not you create your own national health service) are your own decision – my only complaint is that some of your politicians are lying about us to make national health services as a whole look bad. But thanks for being so understanding, there were a lot of people hear who just started being… well, as long as they haven’t deleted them just read the other answers for yourself.
The second one down – yes, the child should recieve care and in most cases they do. Hence why it was in a news paper. But even if you are morally against it – there are private hospitals and despite how severe it sounds it was still technically a ‘cosmetic’ things, even if it was rather at the end of the ‘cosmetic’ spectrum.
The daily mail one – first notice that the daily mail is the most fascist news paper in Britain and then notice certain quotes such as ‘is believed to be the first person’.
The next one down – notice how one of the people talking was American and none of them were professional doctors. It was also possibly the most bias thing I have ever read, and completely wrong as far as my experience tells me.
Annoying woman – I didn’t answer your questions because it was *4 in the morning*. I don’t know if they teach you this in the US, but the world is round. It creates something called a ‘time difference’.
My brother recently (well, around easter) broke his jaw and had surgery the next day.
I know what VAT is and see little relevence here to be brutally honest. I support the idea of VAT – I don’t mind paying a small amount extra if it helps pay for national things.
I don’t know exactly how much is payed in national insurance (nhs tax), but it is taken directly out of your wages before you get them and I know for a solid fact that it is much cheaper than private health insurance – I find a 40% very hard to believe.

Qantas Airways claims that on a flight from San Francisco to Sydney, I could pay 23.50AUD extra to "offset" my share (allegedly 1.958 tonnes CO2-e) of emissions as a result of the flight.
Regardless of whether my rear-end was on the seat or out on the tarmac –
Unless that flight was cancelled…it’d still take off, still spew out all it’s emissions…still business as usual right?
So…
Do you agree these Carbon Offset programs are really just "piece of mind" type business models, and are similar to Travel Insurance in a sense – Only difference is that you probably won’t actually be able to "make a claim on this policy" in the near future or perhaps even your lifetime?
Or do you really trust these large Corporations who have these Offset programs? Will they put your money to good use and plant lovely trees, convert their planes to run on Hydrogen fuels…whatever else they claim?
i dont think medicine should be a business. i dont care if insurance companies lose money. but why are so many people rallying to stop this. i believe more people would chase their dreams if they didnt have to worry about health costs.
e.g. i could afford to travel and pick up small jobs without worrying about healthcare costs if i were to get sick or injured.
why should only the rich be taken care of? if other countries like Canada and the UK can have socialized healthcare, why cant we?
I worked for an insurance company and did not save my gas receipts but have the credit card statement. I have the toll statements as well to prove my travels for business. Am I able to use this to write off on my taxes? Thanks!
If so, is that a good thing?
I have found out that it is cheaper for me to take the luxury bus on a bi-weekly 100 mile trip (for business), than to travel alone in my car (average 24 miles/gallon + tolls + parking; NOT counting maintenance of car, insurance, taxes, etc). It is also more comfortable and possibly faster because the bus can use HOV lanes.
Rebecca, are you trying to sell me insurance? ![]()
I do not think that gas prices are going to come down significantly. My point is that many people will be forced to change their ways, including myself, and maybe that is going to result in energy savings (not only on a personal basis) but for the whole planet.
My mains needs are health insurance, the ability to lease a company car and lease property in the company name.I spend maybe ,000 in business expenses traveling from city to city.
My boyfriend was driving a car that wasn’t insured. He was driving it to swap with his ex girlfriend, because he had hers and she had his. He was not aware that there was no insurance. he got pulled over and ticketed. NJ law says mandatory punishment for this is loss of license for 1 year. He HAS to travel for business. Is there any way he won’t lose his license?
in the state that I live in. I want to promote Adventure Travel and I have a GREAT name that speaks adventure. However, I need a "Seller of Travel" Surety Bond in order to sell or even promote travel services. This is impossible as my credit is not so good and the premium to get this insurance is just WAY to high. I am trying to think of a strategic way around this and still have a business and make money. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I’m a clown I do parties.I balloon twists magic and comedy skits and games.I travel and have put in lots time and money. But I’m just not sure if I legally have to have insurance or a business license.I’ve done it for 4 years more as a hobby and am just now really making it a business. Also where would I find clown insurance?
I am interesting in getting insurance for my business that i am starting. The business will be a sole proprietorship based in Knoxville,TN. It is a travel agency that is online. How much will general liability, errors and omissions, and umbrella coverage cost cost?
my company pays .39/mile as reimbursment for using my car for company travel. I pay all gas myself. I’m just wondering if there is an industry standard for arrangements like this. I pay gas/insurance/maintenence on my car which I also use for personal. mileage reimbursement is of course only for business travel. Whats fair? any feedback helps.
I am an Independant Distributor, I work out of my apartment and travel for sales. I started in April of 2006. This is a new world for me and I am not sure how much I can claim.
Just need to have auto loan docs notarized and a release form regarding insurance settlement. Anyone available that is reliable?
not as easy as it used to be what happened to the days when you could pick up the phone book and find a reputable business…or just one that is still around
Say if I want to travel to other businesses and teach over the lunch hour or after hours…? What kind of insurance do I need?
I am self employed from 3rd of July 2006 and want to suspend my business on 29th of September 2006, because I’m leaving UK for ever. Can somebody help me with following questions?
1.Can I suspend my business on 30th September and not pay class 2 contributions for the rest of the tax year?
2.Can I pay all 2nd class contributions at once (03-07-2006 to 29-09-2006) via direct debit? I won’t be able to receive any post after 29th of September)
3.My income equals £3500 and will not be higher in this tax year. Is there any need to claim any expenses (for example travel or office/flat rent) when having such low income (Is this amount tax free)??
4.Can you provisionally calculate how much tax I owe the Inland Revenue and how should and to Whom? Is there any amount free of tax?
5.Can I get tax return before 29th September?
6.Can Inland Revenue Office check if I filled in tax return form without any mistakes?
7.Which forms do I have to fill?
8.DoIhaveToBeRegistered in home office?
