just to clarify for liberal posters…FOR THE BILLIONTH TIME…the arizona law requires reason as well…you cant ask someone for no reason for paperwork…illegals, as with legals, must be stopped for a reason. perhaps mr holder isnt the only one who should simply read it.

Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, vs Master's Degree?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jul 30 2010

If you can make it through the novel and give me suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I graduated from college, with a BS in Biology. I got accepted into MS programs, but unfortunately there wasn’t enough funding for a TA position, so a Master’s degree is not an option without funding.

The jobs that I am qualified for pay around 00/month. My student loans payments easily take up more than half of this pay, if not more, and I cannot afford much after the student loans. For example, health insurance, car insurance, etc and don’t want to choose between necessities. (I live very frugally)

Currently, I am examining whether to try and reapply for school in the following fall or look into the various armed forces?
I would just like some outside input, before going to talk to recruiters, colleges, again.

Option 1) Search for an entry level job and apply for graduate school in the fall of 2011.
CONS: No guarantee that I would be able to get funded, again
Student loans will be delayed 3 more years, adding interest
Be around younger, immature college crowd for 3 more years.
Many jobs in biology require a MS, so I will still be at "the bottom rung"
when I get out.
If I did get funding, I was told it is very little and most students take out loans for health care, etc. More debt.

Option 2) AF/Navy/Coast guard.

I am looking for a change in pace, purpose if you will. I don’t mind traveling, love meeting new people, etc. I am disciplined, enjoy structure, and thrive in a team setting, enjoy physical activity, don’t mind demanding hours, and can wake up at 5am :) I also don’t want to take things for granted, and think the military would help with that. Also, no criminal background, etc.

PROS
I can earn tuition assistance, and pursue a MS, most likely online. It would be different experience than just getting a master’s, and I would have real-life experience I couldn’t get while in school. Also, the Navy pays for college loans if I go enlisted, although I am more interested in the right job as opposed to money. (Also, benefits such as health care which I couldn’t afford other wise)

Questions…
How hard is it to pursue a higher degree (MS) while in each of these forces?
It is improbable to think I could earn a degree while I am on active duty?

I am interested in science/lab/research/conservation/protection etc. and was wondering the different opportunities offered?
(I looked into oceanography in the Navy, MST in CG, and AF scientist)

If I chose not to make a career out of Navy/CG/AF, how hard is transition back into the civilian world?

Will my military experience help me in finding a job/career after I am out?
(I have noticed during my job search, there is a lot of preference for veterans)

Any various pros/cons in military life?

How difficult is getting into the Coast Guard?

How difficult is being an Officer in the Coast Guard?

Is there a difference between being an E-3 in the CG as opposed to other branches?

I know it is the military, so danger is inevitable, but how dangerous is it, on average?
(I don’t have any children, but I do have family and they worry.)

Treatment of women in the military?

Basically, I am trying to look 5 to 6 years into the future.

If I go back to school, I will get out with more debt, and no job experience, just another degree. If I go to, say the CG, I can possibly get a degree and 4 years of experience or even come out debt free if I go into the Navy. I could also get experience that “corporate America” couldn’t offer in each of the forces, but they are a very big commitment.

Anyone in the same “boat”?

China’s military in comparison to the US…..thoughts?

Jul 26 2010

If you don’t want to read all this then check out the Fact at the bottom. Thanks!

Lets start this off by informing everyone of the benifits of actually serving their country.

1. Pride
2. Service
3. Teamwork
4. Leadership skills
5. Resume builder
6. Money
7. College Benefits
8. Discounts
9. Travel (voluntary and involuntary)
10. Opportunity
11. Career choices
12. Opportunity for advancement
13. No glass ceiling
14. It is what you make it
15. ,000 sign on bonus
16. ,000 commissioning bonuses
17. ,000 reenlistment bonuses
18. Lifelong friendships
19. Retirement plan (nearly unbeatable)
20. Total Health, Dental, Life Insurance
21. Pay is actually comparable if not better in Military Life once you add in the Housing Allowance (BAH) Subsistance Allowance, Clothing Allowance, Hazard Duty Pay (while deployed), Family Seperation (while deployed), and more. A 1LT (officer) with approximately 4 years in the service can expect to make roughly ,000 + ,000 worth of insurances = ,000. And about ,000 + ,000 (insurance) for enlisted with approximately the same time in.

22. Another big benefit that many overlook is the health care. If you have 1 dependent, you have 12. Meaning you get the same coverage for all 12 children as you would if you only have 1. There is no additional charges, they are just simply covered.

If anyone has any questions about joining the military or would like further information feel free to email me at bryansrebates@yahoo.com. I’d be more than happy to talk about the opportunities that the Military has to offer more specifically the Army National Guard – where you can have your civilian career and drill one weekend a month 2 weeks a year as a Citizen/Soldier.

And to all you Women out there who don’t think you’ve got what it takes to join the military – you are dead wrong. Getting through basic training isn’t easy, but its certainly possible. We have over 600,000 Soldiers in the Army National Guard and Reserves and over 500,000 in the Army. All of these people made it, and so can you.

Just another quick fact. Our active duty and reserve forces are dwarfed by that of China’s who has an Active Duty force of more than 10 million.

my father in law is a private financial advisor and im following in his footsteps…i am life insurance licensed and i am working on getting security licensed, i plan on taking over his buisness when the time comes and i really see this job as opposed to my military job my career.I was supposed to deploy this last summer but while i was in my pre deployment medical screening i was told due to a medical condition i was not able to deploy. So i am non deployable…I have often had to cancel appointments with clients and miss valulable classes and sceminars which cost me alot of money due to drill weekends and annual Training. My traveling schedule is very busy, i am often gone from thursday to monday meeting with clients and when im back at the office on tuesday and wednesday im proccesing the buisness i just did. i meet with my clients over the weekends because they are usually home then as opposed to during the normal workweek. so once a month i cannot meet with clients, and as i am a commision based salesman this affects me and my paycheck greatly..i am truely loosing money going to drill. With this and other things the military has put a real strain on my carreer and my pocket. i need some advice on what i should do before i go to my chain of command about this. ive never had any disciplenary actions against me and i feel im a good soldier, 3 years ago when i joined i never thought that my life would be how it is today and ive got another 3 years to go before my contract is up… looking into the future 3 years from now theres no way the military will have room for the schedule my job expects from me…please help with some solid advice, thanks

To go active duty or not?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jul 15 2010

Hi everyone, my name is Jess and I have been married for almost 4 years now. My husband is currently in the national guard with his contract being up in November. He really wants to go active duty Army, has wanted to for a long time now.

Going active would be such a good thing for our lil family (we have a 1 year old) such as stable housing, income and insurance. Plus the chance to travel.

The problem is me. My husband got deployed 1 month after we got married to Iraq and was here for over a year. At the time he was gone I was in a major depression and my mom was also dieing and eventually died while my husband was gone. I didnt handle it well at all and now I almost feel traumatized by it. If the word deployment ever comes up now I start freaking out. I wish I wouldnt be that way but I cant help it.

I secretly really want him to go active to and have that lifestyle, Im just scared I wont be able to handle deployments and be storng for my husband an my son .

I feel like such a bad Army wife :(

What would you do???

URGENT….NY state is charging me for damaging the guard rail in snow accident?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jul 02 2010

Hi all,
About 8 months ago, me and friends we travelling in NY state. It was raining and there was black ice on the road. Our car skid and we spinned 3 times on the road before hitting the guard rail and crashing our car completely. We narrowly escaped an oncoming truck and managed to jump off the car at the last second. Forunately no one was hurt. After us, couple of other cars also came ans crashed on the rail but not as bad as us. we called the cops and they wrote a report. Now finally after all this nightmare, our car rental company has sent us a mail stating that NY govt has sent us a bill for damaging the guard rail. Since the car was rented, we took a damage waiver insurance, that covers the car but not other cars or properties. Do you really think it was out fault that black ice came on the road. Please help as we are students and we do not know what to do….

Thank you
Thank you all a lot. I understand now. Like you said, I might have to go to the court and plead. I will also try talking to a property damage lawyer. Thank you all very much

Myself, I made Bug Out Bags (BOB’s) for my family. Their small bags kept in the house for a quick exit. Each family member has their own bag, so it’s tailored for them. The bag looks like a large gym bag and it has shoulder straps.

In each bag there is a change of clothing and stout shoes.
A travel size first aid kit. (cheap from Wal-Mart and Dollar Store)
A small sample size toiletry kit. (cheap from Wal-Mart)
Three days worth of food, like energy bars and mountain house freeze dried food.
Ziploc bag with salt, pepper and plastic cutlery.
Small pocket knife and multi-tool.
Space blanket.
Windup flashlight ( cheap from Dollar Store)
One chemical light stick.
Two army canteens with drinking cups and water purification tablets.
Two packs of travel size Kleenex.
One butane lighter.
Two small tea candles.
Pepper spray (for 2 and 4 legged varmints)
Small AM/FM radio.
Rain poncho
Xerox copies of birth certificates, drivers licenses, insurance papers, address books, etc.
Rechargeable phone calling card with at least 120 minutes.
A small notebook with a pen.
Also each bag has 0.00 in small bills and two rolls of quarters.

The bags don’t weigh much, but they can be worth their weight in gold if needed.

good and cheap place in a world to fix teeth?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Apr 07 2010

I am from Canada and to fix teeth and install implant is crazy expensive, whoever lives here knows that .it s night mare.and it isnt covered unless you work for big shot employer and company who will cover it 4 u.unfortunately i dont have that kind of job.
most insurances wont pay for implants anyway they are just set up that way, they run their bussiness to insure their own life not life of their "beneficiars."
so i decided to travel to another country to fix my teeth.there are several countries in my mind but you are free to add your own and try to convince me why that one.
possible options would be:Argentina,Mexico,Poland,Serbia and maybe Russia.for instance having implants done over there is at least 4-5 times less so even with airfare I still save some money.
Thanks for ur suggestions.cheers!

beginner motorcycle help?

Apr 05 2010

Im joing the army and want a motorcycle to make it back and forth. I dont have alot of money and im looking for a cruiser type motorcycle. My top pick would be a honda nighthawk 450 but they stopped making them in ’89 and i guess they’re pretty hard to find. I need something cheap and medium sized, in the 400-500 cc range becuase of prolonged long distance travel. Also cheap to find used, but looks badass to.

What brands and makes should i go for that make 400-500cc, cheapeast to find used?
a fair pricec for a 82′-89′ honda nighthawk?
Also whats a rough quote for motorcycle insurance for a 17 year old male?

Would it be cheaper for me to take a taxi or own a car?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Apr 03 2010

If I own a car, I’ll be paying gas and insurance. If I take a taxi, I might be traveling an estimated 25 miles a day or more to get to work.
I would take a bus instead of a taxi because it’s cheaper but they only come once an hour and are not running 24/7.

Is it true that it is only legal for a cop to ticket you after the second speed limit sign? Can I win this?

Cheap Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Apr 01 2010

We live in Boston, MA, and this is the statement I have given my lawyer.

My brother Niko, in his Ford Mustang, and I, in my own vehicle (2007 Crossfire) with my little brother, were driving back from our church basketball league game. It was around 4:35pm on a Sunday and cloudy. I was coming over the hill and saw a police cruiser and police motorcycle parked on the side of the bridge, well out of any radar’s field of view in any direction, that I was coming over, so I put my blinker on, checked my mirror, shoulder-checked, and changed lanes, to give the officers room. I was under the impression that the speed limit was 35 mph, knowing that the opposite side of traffic on the same stretch of Jamaica Plain Way was 35 mph, and seeing a sign further back which stated 35mph as the limit, which is the speed I was travelling. At the most, I could have been going five miles above the speed limit, but that is not likely.
Coming over the top of the hill and continuing down, I saw two State Troopers speaking with a driver of another vehicle parked on the side of the road. One was wearing a bright yellow coat, while the other was in his dark blue uniform. Neither officers had anything in their hands. Both the cruiser and motorcycle were parked on the side of the bridge, where I previously saw them.
The officer in the yellow jacket calmly turned around and proceeded into the closest lane, which my brother was travelling in. He then waved him over to the side of the road, walking into his lane. At the same time, I observed the second uniformed officer strolling through the first lane, and into the lane in which I was travelling. I had to apply my brakes a little harder than usual to avoid striking the officer, since he had strolled into my lane of travel. He waved me over, with me being quite confused and scared, this being the first time I have been pulled over, and having no idea what merited the stop.
One officer approached my brother (the one with the yellow jacket) and stood at his fender on the driver side, while the “blue” officer approached him and asked him for license and registration. After questioning my brother, the officer walks up to me, I roll down my window, and put both hands on my steering wheel, and he asks me for my license and registration. I politely tell him that my license is not on my body, and give him my temporary license, my registration, my full name, and my social security. At some point, I had mentioned that my wallet was in my jeans, along with my license, behind the divider in the trunk area. I just left a basketball game and was wearing my yellow shorts and a simple brown T-shirt, with a black jacket on the outside. The officer asks me how fast I was going, and I responded “The speed limit, but no more than five miles over.” The officer informs me that the limit is not 35, but 25. The officer then proceeds to inquire about the origins of the car, and asks me “Whose car is this?” I tell the officer that it is my car. He then states “that’s not what it says here.” By this point, I was becoming increasingly scared and was very intimidated, but I told the officer “The car is in my father’s name for the cheaper insurance, and the car was a gift to me for high school.” When I had told the officer this, his already stern and gruff attitude had changed to hostile, and he became very belligerent as he further inquired about my vehicle. He asked me in a severe tone if my “daddy” bought me “this nice car,” that “daddy” was probably paying for the insurance, too. He then stated that the car I was driving was too nice for a “kid” my age. During this outburst, I was coming to feel very frightened while I was pulled over, realizing that whatever situation I was in, it had taken a turn for the worse.
While the officer had been questioning my brother (he was pulled over behind me), I had observed more of the same aggressive gestures and body language that was directed towards me. I then saw the “yellow” officer retrieve a radar gun or laser radar gun from his cruiser, and the other officer wave another dark colored car to the side of the road with a malfunctioning taillight, who he spoke to, went to this cruiser to verify information, and promptly let him go. My brother and I were waiting for some time while the officers were pulling other motorists over, letting some of them go ticket-free. Finally, the officer returns to me, reads my citations, and hands me my ticket. I said “Thank you, Officer,” started my car, put on my blinker, checked my mirror, shoulder checked, and merged with traffic.
