UK: Question about travel insurance/pre-existing medical conditions?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Feb 26 2010

I had what they called a "unexplained sponteneous episode of haemoptysis" last Feb (basically my lungs filled up with blood which I coughed up) and was hospitalised for two weeks. This was over a year ago and my doctor says it’s perfectly safe for me to fly/go abroad. However, I was never diagnosed with any illness or condition as they did numerous tests and couldn’t find the cause of what happened. My doctor says it was just "one of those things", that I probably just had a very weak blood vessel that leaked and that my symptoms do not add up to any known condition.

I am going on holiday next month to Holland and Germany. Because I have not been offically diagnosed with anything, do I need to get travel insurance for somebody with a pre-exisiting medical condition? Each company website has a list of conditions, but obviously I cannot say I have any.

If I get "normal" travel insurance, for people without illnesses or conditions, will I be covered should I get any future episodes of haemoptysis whilst I am abroad?

I am so confused. Things would be so much easier if I actually had a proper name for what I have… but "haemoptysis" is not a condition.

HELP!! I am flying from England (I am English) and then will be travelling throughout Holland and Germany for just over a week.
Before anybody tells me not to get travel insurance because my E111 card covers anything, that’s wrong. That just covers you for basic medical care.

Ok so I just got back from Hollywood and my phone was lost or stolen on the last day. I had travel insurance but it wasn’t taken out by me personally so I don’t know if it is covered. What should I do and what is the likelyhood that it is covered?

Feb 21 2010

I work in insurance and am so bored of it… i want a job that pays well, where you dont need fancy qualifications and you get a good amount of time off! – I only get 20 days a year plus bank holidays at the moment.
The job must be exciting, and something slightly challanging.
Does anyone have any job ideas?

I currently have 9 a-c gcses – including english, maths and science, and BTEC national certificate in travel and tourism.

Does my international travel insurance cover rental car?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Feb 01 2010

Hi, I am going on a holiday from Australia to the USA and Canada in March. I have purchased travel insurance and it states

"Section 16 Rental Vehicle – Up to 00

Cover for car excess payable on Motor Vehicle Insurance resulting from your rental vehicle being:

* Stolen
* Crashed
* Damaged and/or cost of returning rental vehicle due to you being unfit

The 00 would cover the excess from the rental car company but do I need some sort of liability insurance too? As I will be hiring a few cars for about a month. The companies I’m looking at are National car rental and Thrifty. I’ll be picking up the car at LAX

Any advice would be good thanks
Why would they offer international travel insurance if its not valid in another country?

I started a job in November working in police stations underground.. very stuffy, germy etc and I got the worst cold ever I was bed ridden for a week and had it for 3 weeks! I then travelled from UK to Egypt this December two days later I got Norovirus which again ruined the holiday… and this weekend I got another viral cold! making me bed ridden..

what the hell is going on????????????????????????? my partner hasnt caught any of these illnesses (apart from norovirus) I eat well so it cant be my diet.

What is acceptable or unacceptable behavior when it comes to an ex-wife?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jan 10 2010

My husband and I have been together for 9 yrs. During our initial dating period he left me to return to his ex-wife. His reasons (1) We had no committed relationship in his view and we were simply friends. (2) She needed him and can’t make it financially with their 2 kids. It didn’t last but a month and he came back to me. I was hesitant to get back involved with him but after listening to his reasons I decided to put the experience in the past. However, his ex-wife and his children has been a major factor for unhappiness in our marriage.
1. In spite of him voluntarily doubling his child-support she still has issues financially (even though she’s professionally employed);
2. He only hears from his kids when they need money or makes demands which he usually grants;
3. He found out last year that his youngest child is gay even though the behavior was obvious since the age of six. He accepts it but the ex-wife won’t in spite of having numerous gay/lesbian close relatives. She has used this as an excuse to increase her contact with him almost on a daily basis.
4. Lately he has been using the excuse that he has to travel to his job’s home corporation in a neighboring state which is located near the ex-wife’s home. Sometimes I’m informed a week in advance or two days in advance..really when he "remembers".
5. Recently after reviewing online the call detail logs for our family plan, I noticed that he and his ex-wife had been exchanging text messages and calls throughout the day on several occasions.
6. He recently forwarded some money to his kids for Christmas (which was okay with me), but he added additional money for a gift for the ex. Granted the kids are nearly grown (one will be 18 in four months) and one works. Had I not reviewed the deposit slip online I wouldn’t have had any knowledge about this.
7. He goes out of his way to remember her for EVERY holiday and his kids make sure of that. But, they never send him a card or gift for anything. For example, the ex-wife called him at 6:45 a.m. to wish him happy birthday but the kids didn’t call until 5:00 p.m. or so (even though they have phones that he pays nearly 0 monthly for). When I asked him how long is this "extra" stuff going to continue..he responded until the kids are old enough to get gifts for their mother on their own.

I’m sorry but I have a problem with this behavior. She has manipulated him since she walked out on him over 14+ yrs ago. This man has given up his car, gave her extra money for support and even gas money. I’m just afraid that when his oldest child goes to college next fall, we’re going to be stuck with excessive expenses pertaining to college, etc. The child demanded a car for the 17+ birthday which he agreed to ge without my knowledge. Okay, so we purchased the car and even pay for the auto insurance. But, it is my belief that he is doing more than enough and they should not expect him to be their fairy godmother when it comes to gifts for their mother. I am to the point where I just want him to leave for a little while because I need space to think. Any feedback?
Oh, I forgot to mention that we purchased a 6-bedroom, 4 bath home because his kids wanted their own rooms when they came over. This occurred three years ago and they have stayed less than 10 times. I suggested that we downsize because my child will be 17 soon and anticipate leaving at 18 like my other child, this leaves us with our child whom is 7. I also suggested becoming foster parents. He shut down both suggestions. So, we have a huge house with several rooms that are never occupied or even walked into. :(

moving to london!! heeelllp!!

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Nov 14 2009

I’m in the early stages of planning a move to London which will hopefully happen after the new year but I’m not really sure where to start. So I have ALOT of questions. I’ve bumbered them so its easier for everyone haha.

Ive got the obvious applications, Visa and Passport. I’ve acquired the right forms – first time passport and ancestry visa.
1) How soon should I lodge those?
I know you have to apply for a passport before you can apply for the Visa so obviously I would do that first.
2) Do I need to have passport photos taken before I lodge the applications?

3) How do I go about finding a rental property? Is it even possible for me to rent in the UK?
4) Is it possible to find fully or partly furnished places?
5) Which are the bad areas on London? (Im 20 years old – Moving out of home, have lived with friends before but never alone).
6) How do I go about looking for a job?
7) How do I apply for a National Insurance Number?
8) How much money do you think I should save before I move to London?
9) Is London and expensive city to live in?
10) Will I need travel insurance if I’m going to live over there or is travel insurance only for holidays?
11) Should I get any sort of medical insurance before I go?

Sorry, I know thats alot but its all so confusing.
Incase theres anything Ive missed…
12) is there anything else you would like to add or you think I should know?

Also, I should add. Ive mentioned before. Im 20 years old. From Australia. Currently living at home, taking time off my University Course (Nursing). Im basically wanting to go to London for a while as Im not sure where I want to go with my life and basically Im just looking at it as an adventure. I think Im at a time at my life where I need to go out and be independant. You should also know that Im not afraid of failing so dont be kind with your comments because I know moving overseas is going to be hard!

Sorry for a long post. Thanks in advance!

Ps. I just thought of something else!

13) What do I do with bank accounts? Can I keep my Australian accounts and open ones in London or do I need to transfer my current ones?

UK resident needing insurance for private vehicle in USA?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Oct 25 2009

I’m travelling to the USA in a few weeks. A friend in Los Angeles has an old Mercedes that he says I can use whilst there on holiday. I also hope to buy a cheap old Van to use to drive up to Canada. I assume Insurance in compulsory to drive in the USA like it is here in the UK. As these are both private vehicles and not hired, I would have to find my own Insurance. How and where do I get Insurance. I cant find anything that is of any help anywhere? Thanks

Working Holiday in Canada/USA?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Oct 12 2009

Hey
I have been thinking about lately going on a working holiday in Canada or possibly the USA. im 21 years old from Australia,i have looked a little bit up about it, i was wondering if anyone with experience could comment on the difficulty in getting the appropriate visas, Tax file number, (well im not sure what they call it in Canada, think its a social security number in USA?), Travel insurance and the like, and the how long this generally takes if possible, i understand this probably varies from person to person but just a general idea would be nice.

My understanding is its much easier to get a working holiday visa in Canada then the USA, but was just wanting some other peoples opinions and experiences and also whether they prefer Canada or the US or see both as pretty much the same and how was it finding work/housing etc while they were there.

I already have a passport so that’s covered.

Cheers

why is my life like this?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Oct 05 2009

I am kinda in a bind. I graduated a few months ago and did not work because of school. Anyway, I have been looking for work since graduation and I have found a civil service job about 30 minutes from my home. I have been in school for a long time, and I need to work for money and health insurance, just like everyone else on this planet. I have been too long without working. Anyway, I have one problem and that is my mother. She is dead set against me taking the job. Because she feels that the hours are horrible ( its from 3 to 11pm) and if I do take the job, she will not be able to travel during xmas holiday to see my sister, because she doesn’t want me to be alone for the holidays. Since I will have to stay home and not travel when starting a new job. I am working on driving because I haven’t driven in a while since I lived on campus. So she is worried about that. You normally, would say, why do you care about what your mother says, the problem is she obsesses about it, makes herself sick, and then ends up in the hospital with her constant dwelling on these things I need to do. She does go to therapy and takes medications but I don’t know how much of it she listens too. Then I feel guilty about the whole thing. I am well over 25 years old, I am not a kid. I don’t know what to do? please don’t make fun, its a serious problem, I have struggled with for so long, I am so tired of it. I kinda feel like drew barrymore character in grey gardens.

travel insurance vacationtions to the uk?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Aug 29 2009

if a person goes to the UK on vacation and they have travel insutance and they have an accident while in the UK and they need emergency treatment from a hospital will that person who is not a UK national have to pay for medical treatment while in the hospital or would they get medical treatment free as part of the NHS (I know most Americans think its evil beyond words) or would they have to pay and claim off the travel insurance when they got home. How does the NHS work when it comes to holiday makers when they come to the UK?

My husband was offered a job today..he will make over a dollar more an hour..1.13-1.33 more an hour..he will have insurance (which he doesn’t have now) he will have 401k choice (which he doesn’t have now) he will have paid holiday and vacation (which he doesnt have now) he will get paid gas money daily its called fairs, for his travel but he is never too far from home (longest like an hour and half drive but sometimes only 20 min drive..so yes this job sounds so much better but here are some good things about his current job now..this job is only a 15 minute drive from our house every day, its a day time job (the other job we arent sure what shift he’d work yet cause they are open 24/7, he doesnt have to work any weekends, and with the better job he will have to work every other weekend…and he loves his job now…but there is no future there..no insurance no retirement, no benefits, the only thing is a paycheck..so whats your opinions? Would you want your hubby to take the better job (but may work a weird shift and some weekends) 0r keep the job he loves but has NO future..(he may like the new job just as much but of course we dont know yet) we have 2 children and baby #3 on the way so we need to think of our childrens futures too…

I am so nervous and keep praying to God to help us make the best decision..

whats your opinions please! Thanks!
When I said he has no future with his current job I mean just he will never have insurance or retirement..
