I got accepted for People to People Student Ambassador program, and the trip I would be going on is 19 days in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. After going to the meeting and hearing from kids that had gone on a trip last year, I was convinced that this was something I wanted dearly! I have always wanted to travel, and this is a great opportunity, and will help set me aside during college applications (I will be in the 10th grade after going this summer).
HOWEVER, the big kicker was when they said it was…
,500 for everything (inc. food, transportation, and hotels, etc.)
+ 5 for a plane ticket to New York (that’s where we leave out of, and I’m coming from DFW area, Texas)
+ 5 for insurance for my bags and health and stuff.
Also, I would need spending money. But I was wondering how much money I should need (for 19 days) ? 00? I don’t know!
But my main question for you guys is… I need a way to raise the money myself. My dad offered to pay 00 of it, but I would so much rather do it myself and not suck out two grand unless it is absolutely necessary…
I am already asking friends and family for money (which I HATE to do), and I am telling them it will count as my b-day and christmas money!
But I need creative ideas for getting ALOT of money. And luckily, we don’t have to pay it all for a year, but still… I need it stat.
Car wash?
Scholarships?
Garage Sale?
Give me your ideas or links to websites with ideas!
Thanks so much!

It is for students in the DFW area that went to this meeting, not just people from my school? In fact, I don’t know anybody.
And the people I heard testimonies from went to the meeting and told us in person how fun it is. (And they’re not employees, they’re high schoolers, and one mother)
Lastly, they gave us a handout with the price on the first page, and told us about it in the beginning of the meeting.
So stop trying to burst my bubble if your only evidence comes from what you’ve heard or read on the internet. Kthanks.
I’m not trying to burst your bubble here, but have to fill you in on this program. It is not what it advertises to be.
They send out letters based on mailing lists, not because of any achievements or nominations. Ask around the teachers at school and you will see that nobody sent in any nomination packets. The company tries to lend legitimacy to itself by having a very professional looking website that drops names of former presidents. Tries to give the impression that it works with dept. of education… but the meeting you went to wasn’t at the school was it? Ask yourself why not. They would not give ANY info about the high cost of the trip until AFTER they get all the kids very excited to go. This is to pressure the parents into doing it. This company is nothing more than a travel agency with an ingenious plan to sell lots of trips to Europe.
Do a bit of research on the web (not just reading their website) and see what you find out.
You may also come across testimonials of satisfied students. Watch the language and speech they use in those testimonials. The company has employees pose as students to counter the claims of this being a scam.
In the end, yes… a trip to Europe would be very cool. You do not need to go this route though. If you were to raise that much money, you could organize a trip yourself. Don’t be taken for a fool by these people.
Sorry for the reality check.

good luck!
what r u asking us for u should just do everything u listed right there in ur question! good luck that sounds like fun!
You need to do a fundraiser of some sort pretty much every weekend until you go, in order to raise that amount of money.
Here are a few ideas:
Have a car wash at a good location, like a fast food restaurant, where there is a lot of traffic.
Have a hot dog/brat stand at WalMart. WalMart has a LOT of traffic, so you should do very well. Plus, a lot of times they will match the contribution to a certain level. I’m not sure if they will in your case or not, though, as you are not a 501c3 charity.
Let ALL of the people in your neighborhood know that you are raising money for the trip, and ask if they would like to hire you to do any work around their house. Whether it’s lawn work, painting, cleaning the garage, or whatever, take them up on it.
Visit one of the many fundraising websites available and sell something like magazines to everyone you know and everyone you don’t know. Get people to renew their existing magazines through you at a reduced cost. They will be saving money on something they already buy, and helping you out at the same time.
Good luck!
