How could I fundraise $7000 for a Student Ambassador trip to Europe?

I got accepted for People to People Student Ambassador program, and the trip I would be going on is 19 days in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. After going to the meeting and hearing from kids that had gone on a trip last year, I was convinced that this was something I wanted dearly! I have always wanted to travel, and this is a great opportunity, and will help set me aside during college applications (I will be in the 10th grade after going this summer).

HOWEVER, the big kicker was when they said it was…
,500 for everything (inc. food, transportation, and hotels, etc.)
+ 5 for a plane ticket to New York (that’s where we leave out of, and I’m coming from DFW area, Texas)
+ 5 for insurance for my bags and health and stuff.
Also, I would need spending money. But I was wondering how much money I should need (for 19 days) ? 00? I don’t know!

But my main question for you guys is… I need a way to raise the money myself. My dad offered to pay 00 of it, but I would so much rather do it myself and not suck out two grand unless it is absolutely necessary…

I am already asking friends and family for money (which I HATE to do), and I am telling them it will count as my b-day and christmas money!

But I need creative ideas for getting ALOT of money. And luckily, we don’t have to pay it all for a year, but still… I need it stat.
Car wash?
Scholarships?
Garage Sale?
Give me your ideas or links to websites with ideas!

Thanks so much!

It is for students in the DFW area that went to this meeting, not just people from my school? In fact, I don’t know anybody.
And the people I heard testimonies from went to the meeting and told us in person how fun it is. (And they’re not employees, they’re high schoolers, and one mother)
Lastly, they gave us a handout with the price on the first page, and told us about it in the beginning of the meeting.
So stop trying to burst my bubble if your only evidence comes from what you’ve heard or read on the internet. Kthanks.

Is there ever a point to using travel insurance?

Travel Medical Insurance | Posted by admin
Jun 27 2009

I purchased travel insurance for a trip that was going to cost about 0. My spouse came down with a really vicious cold and there is no way we were going to get on an airplane, but it was over in a day.

The insurance cost . The maximum claim is 0.00 (which, they figure, is the cost that the airlines charge for rescheduling flights). This was during the weekend when doctors are generally not available except at the Emergency Room.

Here's the kicker: They won't pay unless you provide a note from your doctor saying that you are sick. The cost of getting any sort of medical comment during the weekend will exceed their maximum payout.

By the time we get in front of a non emergency doctor, my spouse be well enough to fly, and even if that were not the case, the actual cost (that is, not counting what our medical insurance would pay) of a routine doctor's visit is over .00.

Since, under these circumstances, we would not ordinarily have consulted with a doctor, we'll end up paying (plus the original insurance) so that we can have proof of sickness enough to claim 0.

Re-arranging our lives to actually get to a doctor will easily cost the remaining 3.

I can see doing it with a higher maximum (we'll certainly incur more than 0 in changing plans) – but with such a low maximum, how can we say its worth it if they're require medical sign off?
