Round The World trip? tips please x?

Family Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Mar 05 2010

Heyyy all!!!

I am planning my 1 year long world trip at the moment and would appreciate some help/opinions.
I am from Australia. Leaving around the end of the year and I know where I want to go:

All of Asia, Europe, and South America/Central America (Including the islands)
Morocco, Egypt, and somewhere else in Africa where I can do a great safari trip + get a culture shock. + Dubai and somewhere else in the Middle East (not too dangerous though).

What I’m unsure of is how long I will need in each continent and country (Keeping in mind I have to do this all in one year unfortunately – due to rtw ticket conditions). My plan is to maybe contiki it /topdeck it around Europe during the world trip then at the end after the actual rtw coming back to Europe to do all the places I missed in my contiki tour and revisit the places I didn’t have enough time in. Followed by living with some family in Serbia for a while and maybe working somewhere in Europe for a while then going to the US and working there for a bit.

Also how much do you think I will need?

> Accommodation (not wanting resorts/5 star hotels just somewhere clean, comfortable, and safe)

> Food (wanting to experience all the tastes of the world + also having the money to eat out at expensive restaurants from time to time – in places such as Paris and London)

> Tours (Contiki type tours etc)

> Extra flights, train/bus trips, taxis

> Entry fees, shows, and other amusements eg Moulin Rouge, Museums, Palaces etc

> Souvenirs (not just for myself but for friends and family too)

> Partying, drinking, clubbing, bar hopping, going to festivals etc

> Travel Insurance, visas (Including living and working ones), and other travel expenses.

Also do you think it is a good idea to send things back home as I travel (due to the amount of places I will be going with all the souvenirs, bit of shopping etc)?

I would also love to follow the sun/summer (how to I go about this) and don’t worry I plan on seeing Europe in winter after the world trip while living there too :p

Thanks in advance

Live in position for light house cleaning and care-giving?

Student Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Feb 19 2010

I am considering to take a live in position to do some care-giving of an elderly woman and light house cleaning and cooking. The person I will work for really needs help. She is a sociology professor, has cancer and lives with her mom, whom needs help as well. I have agreed to help her out in exchange for room and board. However, I am not sure what would be a fair for me to ask in terms of monetary compensation. I am a college student, and making a bit of extra money would help to pay for my gas and travel expenses, car insurance payments (every 3 months), and just little things needed. If you were in my situation, what do you think is a fair amount to ask for? I would appreciate your feedback or suggestions, please no rude comments. I am doing this with the best intention of helping her out and taking care of my basic needs. Thanks

Is Rental car insurance for small business?

Business Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jan 12 2010

We have 10 employees that travel each week and the cost of most rental car insurance from the rental agency is at least a day. All travel expenses get pass directly to the client with proof of receipt. Relying on credit cards and the employees personal insurance is becoming more and more a risky proposition. I was wondering if someone has any info regarding rental car insurance for a small business, if there is any company that you might recommend.

Can I Send this Monetary Gift?

Travel Medical Insurance | Posted by admin
Nov 16 2009

A couple of weeks ago my father in law passed away. My mother in law is being strong. My sister in law mentions about me and my spouse to give money so my sisters in law and brother in law can help buy my mother in law a new computer and a web cam for my mother in law to use so she could see everyone on web cam. I don’t wish to give out our hard earned money for a new computer and a webcam (the webcam won’t even be used often anyway) for personal reasons. Instead, I would like to give a monetary gift so my mother in law can use it for necessary expenses like food, home utilities, car payments/gas, funeral expenses, medical/insurance, travel expenses, other bills, etc.. I mentioned to my sister in law what our plans were and that we would send money via paypal and that we would love to also help pay for the computer/webcam but right now we can’t afford it and we have plans to send her money for the necessities right now.
My spouse agrees with me. Am I mean for thinking this way?
My mother in law lives in France and we live in the US. My intentions is that to tell her to use the money for the necessary expenses as stated above (but I do understand that after I send the money will be out of my control). I am not telling my in-laws to not buy a computer/webcam they do as they please and I pay for what I feel comfortable paying for. Hope this makes sense.
by the way, I haven’t heard from my sister in law yet. So if she gets offended what I said, then tough cookies right?

I’m just curiouse why so many people now a day really?

think doctors are "greedy"? I mean really. Because I know a few doctors and not one are greedy and not one have five houses or anything else.

The majority of the money in the medical field goes to the insurance companies and the government NOT the doc’s.

The average doc spends 12 years in medical school. So if people want free care then why don’t they go to school for 12 years?

They work approximately 75 hours a week. And by the time they pay on their student loans average min. monthly payment is 00. Yes that is three thousand five hundred dollars a month. After spending 12 years in MEDICAL school that is NOT cheap.

Plus an additional 0-600 a month for classes and seminars they are REQUIRED by law to take that comes out of their pockets and they have to make the time for the classes and travel expenses and in addition books when they are required. And the books cost by far more than college text books.

I know there are those that say hey they get to write that off in taxes…hummm you do realize that writing it off only gets the taxes they paid back and nothing else don’t you?

So by the time they do this and pay higher taxes than the people complaining their salary is on the average of .76 an hour. AND they are greedy?

Not to mention the high insurance they have to carry because of stupid law suites and not to mention the Greedy people that refuse to pay because they shouldn’t have to pay for a service. How would you like to go to work and be told you only get paid for 2 days out of the 5 day work week and then some shit head tells you you make to much?!

My friends that are doctors don’t have five houses and very few doctors do. And even if they do so what they earned it! But I’m sure it would be ok if you had five houses. My friends drive Kias and I’m sure there are a quite of few of you driving BMW”s and Lexuses while calling them greedy. Not all but most! The days of doc’s making money are gone.

So why are these extremely greedy people calling doc’s greedy? I just don’t get it!
I do believe it says SO MANY PEOPLE not eveyrone. I don’t think everyone thinks this way because I certianly do not. And we being my family of three only make 22K a year and we do not have insurance and we do not use my friends…
And there are a lot of people that "flaunt" their wealf look at hollywood. And there are a lot of people that buy expensive cars…why should you care? That is there money and if that is how they deciede to spend it so what? To even mention it is jealousy.

Fundraiser ideas for my son's medical bills?

Travel Medical Insurance | Posted by admin
Sep 25 2009

My son has been ill for over 3 years, with on-going medical bills piling up. We traveled to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN last year, and all the travel expenses broke our bank. Our insurance barely covers the minimum, and it’s over ,000 in bills that we can’t cover.

My husband has been working 3 jobs for 2 years now, but we’re broke. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Mind you the computer/webcam would be a gift to mother in law. I am not stopping my in-laws to buy that for her. They do what they want. And I do what I feel comfortable paying for like paying for the necessities first. Unfortunately, my mother in law and my in-laws live in France and me and my spouse live in the US. If we lived close to each other, I would go to mother in law’s house everyday and bring her food and support her. That’s what the money is for to buy her food and stuff.
I am still in the process of looking for blooming plants instead of flowers to send to MIL. I read that blooming plants grow continuously.
My other plan was to look for restaurants in France to deliver food to MIL (since we are not there to physically bring her food). I told my spouse not to say anything to his sisters about our plan and he forgot and ended up telling one of his sisters. His sister said it was a bad idea and that "mom" isn’t handicapped. She took it the wrong way. If we were there we would bring mom food, not because she was handicapped but because we cared for her. This is the same thing.
Anyway, thanks for the vent.

Do I have enough to go after Primary Custody?

Holiday Travel Insurance | Posted by admin
Jun 29 2009

Do you think we have enough evidence to go for primary custody?

My Husband and I live on the west coast and my stepdaughter who is 5 and her mother live on the east coast. We have joint custody (summers, holidays, sprink break) We pay for all travel expenses to and from the homes.

Over the past two years we have kept a logbook and documented as much as we could to ensure that when the time is right that we would file for Primary custody.

Her mother does not work, does not go to school, and does not provide a dime to her daughters care. She's 26 and lives with her parents in a 2br house – her and her daughter share a bedroom.

She sends all the medical bills to us to take care of even though we also cover her private insurance from across the US. She has even forged my husbands name on the guarantor for the Doctor's office since she refuses to pay the co-payment.

Over 60% of our phone calls go unaswered when we call every tues, thurs, sat & sunday on schedule.

When my stepdaughter comes out for visitation, her clothes smell like urine, smoke and are FILTHY. So bad that the WHITE underwear her mother sent were GRAY and stained. Bleach could not even help. They had to be thrown out and new ones purchased by us. (we kept the clothing)

Each time she comes for visitation we spend over 0 on clothing since her mother does not send proper clothes for the seasons. (evne thought it's written into custody)

All her clothes are innapropriate for a 5 year old. Halter tops, hand be downs…, hot pants, no socks are ever sent and no jacket either.

She has now moved the child's residence 3 times and school 3 times to be with the newest BF she has "fallen in love with". (All in the same year)

Each time she has moved, she has not given us notice – The only person to notify us is the school. ( It's written in the custody that she must give us 30 day notice if she intends on moving.)

We have found out from our daughter herself that each time her mother moves in with her new BF, she is to sleep on the floor or couch of wherever she is at since there is no bed or bedroom for her.

My husband and I own a 3br/2ba home, make a good income, live in a good school district and are planning on starting a family in about a year.

Unfortunately people say that if I don't have that "smoking gun" then the odds of us getting my stepdaughter on a more permanent basis are SLIM.

I don't want to take her away from her mother completely, I would never do that…But I would like to provide a more stable life for her.

Any help or suggestions?
We have talked to our lawyer, unfortunately she is not a very "agressive" person and likes to write alot of "letters" to the mother about her behavior. that's the progress we have made and it's getting tiresome.

We just found out today that she moved schools again because the new relationship did not work out with the BF.
