hi
i recently submitted my travel insurance claim along with a medical certificate..
but they are also requesting for some HIPAA forms..what are those?
HIPAA is the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountabilty Act. It has some good features but is mostly loaded down with government bureacracy and waste; too bad we can’t get Congress to cull out all the bull and leave in the stuff that makes sense.
Getting down off the soapbox, these forms are a pretty standard requirement with all health providers these days. It is basically a disclosure form, telling you why they need certain information from you, how they can or may use it, and who they may share it with. It also includes information on your rights under the Act. Basically, it is an information privacy (or lack thereof) disclosure.
It is nothing you can contest or refuse to sign if you wish your claim to proceed. They should provide these to you, though; you should not have to hunt them down.
